Take a look into the process of renovating this bathroom into a modernized home spa with all the features our clients desired. This bathroom was no easy task, right in the midst of COVID-19 our clients asked if we could fully redesign their bathroom into the home spa of their dreams. At first we knew the challenges of renovating during a pandemic would cause some issues, but we weren't aware of just how long this renovation process was going to take. Let us walk you through the process of making this a forever bathroom and see if you can take a guess how long it took us to complete this project...

Before we get into the design elements of this renovation, we first have to show you what space we were working with. This bathroom was very open and we had a decent amount of room to work with, two things that are hard to find when doing renovations. The home was build with some interesting dimensions as the closet on the other side cut into the corner of the bathroom. The posed as a challenge and really made us think about how best to utilize the space since the clients didn't want to take away any square footage from the rest of the home. The window also limited where we could put the shower, the size of the shower, and how we designed the shower.

Once we had seen the space and talked to the clients about what they had envisioned for this area of their home, we were able to start putting their design package together. This is a critical piece of the process as the design package has everything the client, tradespeople, and the builders need to get started with the renovation process. We have included some of the key elements of this design package below.

Permit drawings are a helpful tool that allow us to map out the space before we start the renovation process. This gives the clients a chance to look over everything and make sure it is up the their standards. Permit drawings are also required by the city to show that everything planned in the renovation is up to code and follows all city guidelines.

3-D renderings give the clients a chance to really visualize the space before having to make final selections. We can provide different variations anything that the clients might need extra help deciding between. This gives them to opportunity to see all their selections come together and be 100% certain on the choices they make.

The clients wanted a deep soaker tub in this bathroom so we had to draw up the dimensions to make sure that it would fit in the space we allocated. The clients also wanted a ledge near the bathtub to put accessories that helped them relax...wine. This design ended up allowing us to put the bathtub faucet inside the wall of the ledge.

Our final step was to put it all together. The hardest part of this renovation was timing. It took us much longer to order and receive the materials that we needed for this renovation as a result of the pandemic. This resulted in the renovation taking much longer than expected, about 9 months. At the end of the day, we were able to get the bathroom finished and include all the features these clients desired, which included a traditional Japanese deep soaker tub, a rainfall shower, and a double vanity.
