Project Spotlight - 21st Century Bathroom
For this project spotlight we are focusing in on an exciting bathroom renovation. We were given the challenging task of renovating a 20 year old bathroom that was in serious need of some revamping. Our clients wanted their dream bathroom and after living in this house for over 20 years, we were willing to design just about anything meet their needs. The main requirement for this bathroom was that the client wanted to sit in the bathtub and be able to look out the window into the backyard. The space in this bathroom made our job a tall order, but we were ready to get it done.
Where We Started...
The main purpose of this bathroom renovation was functionality. The shower was much too small and the overall layout of the bathroom wasn't functional. We knew we were going to have a challenge when designing this bathroom because the clients had specific requirements that they wanted included in the renovation. We wanted to make sure the clients got a beautiful looking bathroom, while still making functional sense.
3 Cool Features of This Bathroom
Floor Integration - Because we were only renovating this bathroom we wanted to make sure that the ensuite and master bedroom remained cohesive, thus the integrated flooring. This allowed us to change the style of the bathroom without disrupting the rest of the house. Plus, it looks really cool.
Shower Column - When designing this bathroom, the clients wanted an open, glass shower. But, because of plumbing it was going to be almost impossible to do this structurally. So, we added a shower column to hide the unwanted structural pieces while still maintaining an open concept.
Niche at Bathtub - The niches we added to the surroundings of the bathtub were not only for aesthetics. The client enjoys reading and having a glass of wine in the bath. This left us to come up with an aesthetically pleasing storage area to hold both wine glasses and books. Our solution... adding niches at both sides of the tub.
